Post streptococcal glomerulonephritis occurs mostly in the under fives, but may occur in early adolescence and in adults.
Males and females are equally affected.
In temperate climates outbreaks follow outbreaks of streptococcal sore throat; in tropical climates they follow outbreaks of scabies and skin infection.
It has been said that a general practitioner in the UK has only a one in six chance of ever seeing a child with post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.
