Epidemiology of aortic dissection
Aortic dissection is the most common aortic emergency.
- annual incidence is 3-4 per 100,000 in the UK and USA (1)
- it is more common in males with a peak incidence at 50-70 years of age (2)
- according to cross sectional study of 951 patients, 68% of patients presenting with aortic dissection were males and 79% were white.
