Contraindications/cautions

Contraindications include:

  • allergy to aspirin
  • where there is active peptic ulceration
  • in haemophiliacs
  • with hypoprothrombinaemia

Cautions include:

  • asthma
  • history of peptic ulcer disease
  • renal impairment
  • gout (low doses of aspirin increase urate concentrations)
  • concomitant use of drugs that increase risk of bleeding
  • preferably avoid during fever or viral infection in children (risk of Reye's syndrome)
