Treatment
Reduction is essential. Closed reduction should be tried but often fails. Internal fixation is usually with Kirschner wires.
The wrist is immobilised in plaster for about 3 weeks during which time, finger, elbow and shoulder exercises are advocated. The K wires may be removed after about 6-8 weeks.
Patients are unable to perform heavy lifting using the wrist for 4 to 6 months post-injury.
