With the appendix delivered, the vessels present within the mesoappendix must be secured. Initally, artery forceps are placed across the mesentery. If the mesentery is long or inflamed, it may be necessary to apply more than one pair of forceps.
On either side of the forceps, a ligature is applied around the pedicle. Vicryl gauge 0 is suitable for ligation. Then, the mesoappendix is divided between forceps and ligature.
