The onset of schizophrenia may be at any age, but is typically below the age of 45. The most common age of onset is in adolescence or early adulthood (psychotic symptoms usually occur between the ages of 17 and 30 years in men and between the ages of 20 and 40 years in women).
The onset may be of an acute or an insidious nature.
