There are usually multiple fears, for example fears of travelling, crowds, closed spaces, open spaces, shops etc. with a consequent restriction of activities.

Specific phobias often become generalised to many situations and associated symptoms of dizziness, depersonalisation, panic attacks and depression are common.

Sufferers tend to be introverted and score as neurotic on questionnaires.

Symptoms fluctuate throughout this condition, which generally runs a prolonged course.
