Reflux nephropathy
Urine reflux is the most common cause of chronic pyelonephritis.
Reflux is caused by:
- incompetent vesico-ureteric valves
- abnormal renal papillae which result in intra-renal reflux
Superimposed infection probably has a role in the pathogenesis of reflux-associated renal disease.
