Poland's syndrome

Poland's syndrome is a congenital deformity of the chest wall characterised by:

  • absence of pectoralis major
  • absence or hypoplasia of pectoralis minor
  • absence of costal cartilages
  • hypoplasia of breast and subcutaneous tissue
  • brachysyndactyly

Various degrees of the malformation may occur ranging from absence of the costosternal portion of pectoralis major to the fully developed syndrome.

It may be corrected surgically.
