Clinical features in children

The commonest signs of anaphylaxis in children are:

  • pallor (shock)
  • limpness
  • apnoea

Other signs include:

  • upper airway obstruction - hoarseness and stridor
  • lower airway obstruction - dyspnoea and wheeze
  • sinus tachycardia, profound hypotension with tachycardia

Skin:

  • angioedema - swelling of lips, face, neck, tongue
  • urticaria - itchy weals with erythmatous edges and pale blanched centres
  • diffuse erythema
