The non-operative management of arthrogryposis entails early movement of all joints which are affected. Serial splinting or casting may help to establish an increased range of passive motion and deters the development of contractures. However, established joint contractures may not be affected by splinting and physiotherapy. Early, supervised conservative measures may permit an increased passive range of motion and so allow subsequent surgical reconstruction, eg tendon transfers.
