The meningeal branches of the vagus nerve are first seen distal to the superior vagal ganglia, where their cell bodies reside. They pass superiorly within the carotid sheath through the jugular foramen.
Within the skull, the meningeal branches diverge to supply sensation to the dura mater of posterior fossa inferior to the tentorium cerebri.
