Cerebellar disease refers to dysfunction of the cerebellum, the largest part of the hindbrain.
The cerebellum is essential for the subconscious maintenance of balance, muscle tone, and the co-ordination of voluntary motor activity. Cerebellar deficits can result in ataxia, abnormal gait and posture, hypotonia and dysarthria.
