Acalculia is said to be present if the patient is unable to carry out simple calculations, e.g. 'serial 7's' - taking 7 away from 100, then 7 from 93, etc.
This sign is present in lesions of the dominant parietal lobe and is a component of Gerstmann's syndrome.
