A grade V fracture is compression damage to a portion of the growth plate. The crushed epiphysis stops growing; this is not easy to detect acutely, but results in severe deformity in the long-term.
This injury carries the worst prognosis of any of the epiphyseal injuries, usually causing partial or complete cessation of growth.
