The posterior sternoclavicular ligament is a thickening of the capsule of the sternoclavicular joint. It extends as a fibrous band between the superoposterior part of the medial end of the clavicle medially to the superior part of the posterior surface of the manubrium sterni.
It is not as strong as the anterior sternoclavicular ligament. It is associated with the sternal origin of the sternohyoid muscle.
