Diagnosis in the mother is serologic, either a rising IgG titre in paired sequential samples 2 - 3 weeks apart, or a positive finding of toxoplasma specific IgM. IgM may also be found in cord blood.
Analysis of foetal blood is often positive for toxoplasma.
