The pair of Bartholin's glands are found deep to the posterior ends of the labia minora, on either side of the of the vaginal entrance.
During sexual arousal they secrete a lubricating mucus.
A cyst may form if the duct becomes obstructed, and if the cyst becomes infected then an abscess develops
Rarely a swollen Bartholin's gland will be secondary to the presence of malignancy.
