  • prgnosis is better in men than in women
  • higher inflammatory markers are associated with longer duration of therapy and more relapse

Most patients respond well to steroid therapy

  • duration of corticosteroid show wide variations
    • in some steroids can be can be reduced easily and stopped within a year, without any relapse while some tend to relapse on dose reduction, until the disease seems to “burn itself out” after a few years
    • few patients may need several years of treatment
