Emboli which arise from the mural thrombus associated with an aneurysm may impact distally in peripheral vessels. Clearly the clinical consequences of such emboli depends upon their size and their site of impaction. Painful bluish-red discolouration of the toes - similar to trash foot - is a common manifestation of embolisation from abdominal aortic aneurysms.
