follow-up should be offered at about 2-3 weeks after commencing treatment - this is to check adherence to treatment and risk of reinfection, and for contact tracing
tests of cure are not routinely indicated following treatment with standard regimens, as long as partners are known to have been treated and adherence to therapy is likely
however, in pregnancy, tests of cure are desirable
due to higher positive chlamydia tests after treatment in pregnancy, attributed to either less efficacious treatment regime, non compliance or re-infection, it is recommended that pregnant woman must have a test of cure 5 weeks after completing therapy, 6 weeks later if given azithromycin.
