full blood count - anaemia due to blood loss and/or vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, increased platelet count which correlates with disease activity, leukocytosis.
ESR - elevated
elevated CRP: correlates with disease activity. Note that CRP is significantly higher in Crohn's disease than in ulcerative colitis.
biochemistry - severe disease may result in
hypokalaemia, hyponatraemia, and metabolic acidosis secondary to diarrhoea
hypoalbuminaemia secondary to malabsorption
abnormal liver function tests if there is associated chronic active hepatitis
