An extensive analysis of studies has been undertaken by Vaccarino and colleagues. They did not find enough similarities in trial designs to undertake metanalysis of the different studies. However there analysis was able to undertake simple summative analysis of the studies. The figures were then analysed in terms age, and risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes.
It has been previously thought that women have a much higher mortality risk after myocardial infarction (MI) than men. However based on this extensive work, it has been shown that there is only a modest short-term survival disadvantage for women compared with men. Also, in the longer-term, women have a survival advantage compared to men at all ages.
