Glucagon is a hormone that is secreted by the pancreas in response to hypoglycaemia. This hormone causes an increase in blood sugar by increasing hepatic glycogenolysis and hepatic gluconeogenesis.
Glucagon, paradoxically, also causes an increase in insulin secretion.
Glucagon has a cardiac effect causing an increase in rate and force of cardiac contraction.
