Prolapse is an uncommon presentation of haemorrhoids. However, it has a key role to play in the pathogenesis of the condition.
Patients may report anything between the extremes of no symptoms to a constantly prolapsing mass that is painful and limits work and hobbies. A prolapsed haemorrhoid may liberate mucus to the perineum resulting in pruritus ani.
An acutely non-reducing haemorrhoid may be one presentation of the condition.
