  • cholecystokinin:
    • released by the upper intestinal mucosa on contact with digestion products
    • stimulates:
      • gallbladder contraction
      • relaxation of sphincter of Oddi
  • vagus nerve efferent signals
    • less potent a stimulus than CCK
    • occurs in response to anticipation and presence of food
    • similar stimulatory effects to CCK
