IV drug abusers
Most are affected by Staph. aureus. Less frequently, faecal and group B streps, E. coli, Proteus, Serratian, Pseudomonas and anaerobes are responsible.
Two thirds of cases have no evidence of previous heart disease. The tricuspid valve is usually involved.
