  • tissue necrosis at the site of injection
  • must be administered alone, after careful flushing of lines and followed by careful further flushing
  • metabolic alkalosis
  • hypokalaemia
  • increased cerebrovascular resistance
  • impair catecholamines' actions
  • worsen intracellular acidoses
