Prausnitz-Kustner reaction
Passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in mice is a model of type I hypersensitivity reactions:
- a non-sensitized mouse is given a subcutaneous injection of IgE-containing serum from an allergen-sensitized mouse
- subsequent administration of the allergen results in a characteristic localised wheal and flare reaction called the Prausnitz-Kustner reaction
The Prausnitz-Kustner reaction provides evidence for the role of IgE in type I hypersensitivity reactions.
