Vitamin B6
Pyridoxine is a water soluble vitamin that exists as pyridoxine, pyridoxal and pyridoxamine.
Pyridoxal phosphate is an essential coenzyme for:
- transaminases in amino acid degradation
- glycogen phosphorylase
- porphyrin synthesis
- tryptophan synthesis
Sources include salmon, muscle, brain, yeast, tomatoes, yellow corn, spinach, whole-grain products, and yoghurt.
It is formed by bacteria of the GI tract and stored in liver, muscle and brain.
