Primary osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is termed primary when there is no obvious cause for the joint disease.
There are two main subtypes of primary osteoarthritis:
- classic osteoarthritis with with pain and dysfunction of one or two weightbearing joints
- generalized nodal osteoarthritis often affecting the finger joints of middle-aged women
