Discharge criteria
The following should be considered before discharging patients from day surgery:
- no acute surgical complications
- no excessive pain
- patient awake and orientated
- recovery room staff happy about discharge
- vital signs stable
- patient able to take fluids well
- leave with a responsible adult
- understand limitations of activity post-anaesthesia
- patient passing urine
