Contraindications
Situations in which renal biopsy is not advised include:
- small, shrunken kidneys
- obstructed kidneys
- kidneys with significant discrepancy in size and function as assessed by radionuclide studies
- uncontrolled hypertension
- coagulation defects for example, thrombocytopenia
- reflux nephropathy
- acute urinary tract infection
