Complications
Early complications include:
- patent ductus arteriosus with congestive heart failure
- pneumothorax
- pulmonary interstitial emphysema
- lobar collapse
- cerebroventricular haemorrhage
Late complications are principally the result of oxygen toxicity and barotrauma leading to chronic lung disease, ie bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
