Grasp reflex

The grasp reflex is a primitive reflex that, if present after 2-3 months of age, may indicate a frontal lobe lesion in the pre-frontal area.

It is elicited by the examiner running his fingers across the patient's outstretched palm. A positive reflex occurs if the stroking induces grasping. It is significant if it occurs on one side and indicates a lesion in the contralateral lobe.
