The important antioxidant vitamins are:
- vitamin A
- vitamin C
- vitamin E
Antioxidant vitamin supplementation may have a role in:
- prevention of atherosclerosis
- prevention of cancer
Other substanced involved in protection from oxygen radical damage include:
- urate
- biliverdin
- selenium
Notes:
- a systematic review and meta-analysis found that antioxidant supplements for primary and secondary prevention did not decrease mortality
