Indications
Possible indications for the use of general anaesthesia in childbirth include :-
- caesarian section when a regional technique is contra-indicated.
- situations where full uterine relaxation is required eg correction of transverse lie by intrauterine manipulation, breech extraction.
- when manual extraction of the placenta is required.
- if it is undesirable for humane reasons that the patient remains conscious during delivery eg of a deformed infant.
