Pathogenesis
The pathogenesis of prostatic carcinoma is uncertain.
Factors implicated include:
- advancing age
- race - rare in people of east Asian descent, common among black people
- environment - Japanese migrants to USA acquire an increased incidence of the disease
- hormonal - androgens may have a permissive role; maintain prostatic epithelium transformed by unknown carcinogens
