For myopathies, an accurate family, drug and social history is vital.
Biochemical investigations:
- calcium, potassium, magnesium
- glucose, HbA1c
- thyroxine and cortisol levels
- creatine kinase: elevated levels signify muscle damage
- ESR: raised in polymyalgia rheumatica
- electromyography and muscle biopsy
