Differential diagnosis
Migraine may also produce transient visual loss but:
- this begins with photopsia (uniformed flashes of light) or teichopsia (dazzling zigzag lines)
- flashes move across the visual field for several minutes
- defects are often bilateral and homonymous - ie. occupy corresponding halves of both visual fields
