Complications
- radial nerve palsy - in open injuries, the nerve may be divided and should be explored operatively - but in closed injuries, the nerve is usually intact and if the wrist is supported, should recover
- brachial artery occlusion - uncommon - but should be suspected whenever there are signs of vascular insufficiency
- delayed union - often due to excessive traction
- non-union - treated by internal fixation and bone graft
- joint stiffness - if mobilisation is delayed or insufficient
