Intravenous immunoglobulin
Intravenous normal immunoglobulin is prepared from pools of at least 1000 blood donations.
Dosage is according to body weight. A course of 0.4 g/kg/day for five days is typical. Product literature should be consulted for details.
Normal immunoglobulin is used for:
- passive immunisations against:
- hepatitis A
- measles
- rubella
- gammaglobulin replacement:
- congenital agammaglobulinaemia
- hypogammaglobulinaemia
- post-bone marrow transplant to prevent infection
- in the treatment of:
- idiopathic thrombocytopaenic purpura
- Kawasaki syndrome
- Guillain-Barre syndrome
- multifocal motorneuropathy with conduction block
- multiple sclerosis
