Signs of shock in bacterial meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence have listed the following as features of "shock" (1)
- capillary refill time more than 2 seconds
- unusual skin colour
- tachycardia and/or hypotension
- respiratory symptoms or breathing difficulty
- leg pain
- cold hands or feet
- toxic or moribund state
- altered mental state or decreased conscious level
- poor urine output
