Investigations
- first line investigations include FBC, ESR, U+Es, B12, TFTs, fasting glucose
- more specialist investigations include
- evaluation of serum levels of other B group of vitamins like thiamine, riboflavin is suggested (1)
- magnesium levels
- tests for malabsorption
- bone marrow aspiration (indicated if suggestion of myeloproliferative diseases such as essential thrombocytosis or polycythemia vera)
- electrophysiological studies (nerve conduction velocities, electromyography or nerve biopsy)
- imaging studies such as MRI or CT
