Risk factors associated with the acquisition of actinomyces
The following factors have been implicated as possible risk factors for actinomycosis infection:
- age 20-60 years
- male sex (except for pelvic actinomycosis, which mainly affects women)
- diabetes
- immunosuppression
- steroids
- bisphosphonates
- leukaemia with chemotherapy
- HIV
- lung and renal transplant recipients
- alcoholism
