Hepatomegaly (degree of enlargement)
Massive hepatomegaly may be caused by:
- secondary carcinoma
- alcoholic liver disease with fatty infiltration
- myeloproliferative disease
- right heart failure
- hepatoma
Moderate hepatomegaly - causes as above plus:
- haemochromatosis
- haematological disease:
- chronic myeloid leukaemia
- lymphoma
- fatty liver - secondary to diabetes, toxins
Mild hepatomegaly - as above plus:
- hepatitis
- biliary obstruction
- hydatid disease
