Haemolytic anaemia
Haemolytic anaemias are all characterized by:
- shortening of the normal red cell life span, i.e. less than 120 days
- accumulation of the products of haemoglobin metabolism
- a marked increase in erythropoiesis in the bone marrow
They can be intrinsic or extrinsic.
