Treatment of menstrual irregularity
The combined oral contraceptive:
- provides a regular period
- increases the sex hormone binding globulin and so reduced free testosterone
- increases insulin resistance and may provoke diabetes
Other treatment options include cyclical progestogens or a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (1).
