Prognosis
Information on prognosis is limited
- prgnosis is better in men than in women
- higher inflammatory markers are associated with longer duration of therapy and more relapse
Most patients respond well to steroid therapy
- duration of corticosteroid show wide variations
- in some steroids can be can be reduced easily and stopped within a year, without any relapse while some tend to relapse on dose reduction, until the disease seems to “burn itself out” after a few years
- few patients may need several years of treatment
Patient support groups can play a vital role (1)
