Scrotal mass confined to the scrotum
A primary or true scrotal swelling is one that an examiner can get above. It may be cystic or solid.
Cystic primary scrotal swellings include:
- those that can be felt separate from the testis:
- epididymal cysts
- spermatocoele
- those in which the testis lies within the swelling:
- hydrocoele
- haematocoele - does not transilluminate
Solid primary scrotal masses include:
- those that can be felt separate from the testis:
- chronic epididymitis
- acute epididymitis
- torsion of hydatid of Morgagni
- those are within the testis:
- testicular tumour
- torsion of the testis
- orchitis
- testicular gumma
